Lee University, Church of God Announce Scholarship for Children of Ministers

Cleveland, TN—Lee University and the Church of God have partnered to institute an annual scholarship for dependents and children of ordained ministers and bishops in the Church of God.

“It’s our great pleasure to announce the launch of the Church of God Dependents of Ministers Scholarship,” said Church of God General Overseer Dr. Tim Hill. “For a century, Lee University has been the college choice for so many young people in our church, and today we are pleased that this scholarship will support that choice for families ministering in our church throughout the world.”

“It’s such an exciting time for young people taking the great step toward a college education,” said Dr. David Ramirez, Third Assistant General Overseer and liaison to the Lee University Board of Directors. “The future is bright for the sons and daughters of our dedicated ministers and bishops, and we know with this scholarship, even brighter.”

The scholarship will begin awarding for the 2023-24 school year and will apply $1,500 per semester toward tuition in the fall and spring semesters for a total of $3,000. Recipients will be able to renew the scholarship in subsequent years with application.

“The Church of God supports our work here at Lee in so many ways,” said Lee President Dr. Mark Walker. “We are grateful to have this opportunity to provide a way for more Church of God students to experience the Christ-centered academic excellence that is unique to Lee University.”

Students can qualify for the scholarship by submitting the Lee University Undergraduate Admissions Application, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the Lee University Scholarship Profile, which is an online application used to disseminate various institutional aid programs.

The number of scholarships is limited and will be awarded on a rolling basis with priority given to Early Action candidates. If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of designated awards, a committee of Lee and Church of God officials will be formed to evaluate unawarded applicants, and preference will be given on the basis of need.

Lee University awards financial aid for completed applicants and returning students on a rolling basis. Lee’s Early Action program ensures applicants who have completed all applications prior to December 1 receive admission and financial aid decisions on a priority basis with a guarantee of receiving a decision by the holiday break, which begins December 17. For applications completed after December 1, admissions and financial aid decisions will be made on a rolling basis. The Church of God Dependents of Ministers Scholarship will be awarded accordingly along with all other federal, state, institutional, and private aid.

Prior to the disbursement of the award, Lee University will confirm with the Church of God that the parent of the applicant is in fact credentialed as an ordained bishop/minister and in good standing with the denomination.
