Kentucky Churches Continuing Flood Recovery

General Overseer Dr. Tim Hill visited and encouraged pastors throughout Eastern Kentucky, which experienced catastrophic floods in late July, on Monday, September 12.

Dr. Hill toured the area with Kentucky Administrative Bishop Dr. Tony Cooper and members of the Kentucky State Council. They began at the Jackson Church of God, where a Fellowship Hall was completely submerged in flood waters and the church basement was flooded. Nine families suffered total losses of their homes.

They then met with 12 area pastors for a time of encouragement, assessment and fellowship at the Second Creek Church of God. Another $25,000 of emergency funds and donations were disbursed, bringing the initial total to over $100,000 in aide.

“I’m so encouraged by the strength in the voices of our pastors throughout Eastern Kentucky,” Dr. Hill said. “They exude faith. They have ministered to so many in their community in the midst of their own loss. I want them to know that we’re not going to just come in and go away. We can’t just be here in the moment of crisis. We’re here for the long haul.”
