General Assembly Prayer Focus Culminates with May 15 Event

Cleveland, TN–A special 15-day prayer focus, which began on May 1, highlights the upcoming Church of God General Assembly. The observance will conclude with a celebration event set for Sunday night, May 15 at 8:00 pm EST.

The 90-minute event will be broadcast via the Church of God’s digital platforms on YouTube and Facebook (@COGHQ) and take place from the David C. Blair Center at the Church of God International Offices with a live audience.

The special emphasis is part of the ongoing PRIORITY Prayer initiative launched earlier this year with a prayer call taking place every Monday morning at 9:00 am EST on Facebook (@COGHQ). PRORITY Prayer will culminate at the Assembly with a 30-minute time of intercession preceding the morning General Council business sessions that week. The 78th International General Assembly of the Church of God, postponed from July of 2020 in Indianapolis, will take place in San Antonio, Texas July 25-29, 2022.

The May 15 prayer event will feature a number of church leaders who will pray over various aspects of the General Assembly. Led by General Overseer Tim Hill, the time together will resemble the Agree prayer events that have taken place annually since 2017. There will be prayer stations, times of prayer around a globe, short interviews about Assembly items, and prayer over the all-important General Council Agenda, which was recently finalized by the Executive Council and will be formally released next month.

“This Assembly has been so long in coming, it is incumbent upon us to make it more of a focus of prayer than ever,” stated General Overseer Tim Hill. “The Lord has brought us this far and through a pandemic. We are grateful and want to set aside this time to zero in on how we can best cast the future of our movement to Finish the Great Commission.”

This will be the first time a Church of God Assembly has been postponed since an influenza pandemic in 1918, more than a century ago. At that time, general assembly meetings took place every year. When the 2022 Assembly convenes later this summer it will have been four years since the 77th Assembly in 2018, the longest period between an assembly in the history of the Church of God.
