Speakers, Events Added to Smoky Mountain Gathering Speakers

With one week until the Smoky Mountain Gathering is set to take place in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, Rev. Tommy Bates has agreed to join the roster of special guests at the 30th anniversary celebration of the senior adult event.

With the theme, “Reaching a Jubilee Generation,” the Smoky Mountain Gathering will be staged at the Gatlinburg Convention Center on April 26-28, 2022.

In addition to Pastor Bates, who will join Church of God General Overseer Tim Hill during the Wednesday night session, another new feature will be a look back at 71 years of the beloved Red Back Hymnal. Joining Dr. Hill, who will moderate the anniversary celebration, will be musical guests The New Speers and composer Geron Davis.

Along with the added events, most of the favored traditions of past gatherings will be part of the 2022 SMG, including lots of fellowship, singing, and displays of talent. This will be the first time since 2019 the SMG has taken place following two years of cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Dusty Wilson, coordinator of the SMG, guest artists who were originally scheduled to appear in April 2020 all agreed to return for the event. Musical guests include the previously mentioned New Speer Family and Geron Davis, the Martins, and guitarist Doyle Dykes. Comedian Dennis Swanberg will also highlight the event.

“Due to the increase in interest to attend this special celebration, seating has now been increased to accommodate 200 more delegates,” Wilson stated. “If you have not yet been to the website to learn more, there is still time to do so. Register as soon as possible to reserve a seat for this unforgettable event.”

A special website that gives all details, such as bios on special speakers, hotel information, talent participation information, optional events in the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, and registration is available at www.smokymountaingathering.com. [1]

“We are looking forward to finally being able to come together after two years of cancellations,” Wilson stated. “The Smoky Mountain Gathering has such a rich heritage in the Church of God and this year’s 30th anniversary program promises to be the best ever!”
