Ministry and Medical Missions in Latin America

By Silvina Gonzalez

I just returned from a medical missions trip where I participated in a World Missions Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and toured through the countryside of Uruguay providing medical care. Two doctors from Atlanta visited us: Dr. Melissa Quiros and Dr. Annie Lin.

During the day we gave free medical care, glasses and medicine to more than 120 adults and children at two churches. At night, we held evangelistic services; Dr. Melissa was able to play the violin with the local praise teams; Dr. Lin gave her testimony and greeting; and after seeing patients during the day, I was able to share God’s Word, preaching in both churches. It was a great joy to see some of the patients I helped during the daytime consultations at the night church services. Several of them accepted Christ as Savior!

Later, we took another trip to Tacuarembo to visit the Church of God pastored by Justo Santana and his wife Milka. The doctors, accountant Marilina Gonzalez and Rev. Doris Quiros came with me. The latter came from Atlanta to share God’s Word in Tacuarembo. It was a tremendous blessing to all.

Recently, I preached twice and taught a world missions conference at the anniversary of the Baptist Church in Mercedes, as a guest of Pastor William Vigne and his wife Nelida. It was a great blessing because two people accepted Christ as Savior and we were able to pray for the sick and once again proclaim that Jesus Christ is the Physician of physicians.

For the year 2007, I am planning on visiting other South American countries and traveling to Central America for the first time to continue preaching Jesus Christ through medical missions, integrating medicine and ministry and supporting our missionaries in the field.
