Prayer Ministries Offering 12-Week Virtual ‘School of Prayer’

In conjunction with the recently announced noon call to prayer, Church of God Prayer Ministries will sponsor a 12-week Virtual School of Prayer weekly, beginning on Wednesday, September 8 at 6 PM EST.

On September 1, Church of God General Overseer Tim Hill issued a call to prayer for the denomination. With the exception of Sundays, at noon each day a different church leader will be praying for needs in a brief gathering on Church of God social media platforms (@COGHQ). This effort is an ongoing component of the #WEPRAYCOG initiative.

The prayer teaching will use the text, Prayer Closet as guide and will focus on the creation of a personal prayer room, personal prayer practices and patterns for prayer.

P. Douglas Small, prayer coordinator for the Church of God, was one of the promoters of the movie, War Room and was featured in the Bible Study released by LifeWay in conjunction with the movie.

Small noted the need for such a study in view of the new variant of Covid19 that again threatens public gatherings in the nation. The study is an opportunity for a midweek examination of personal prayer practices.

Some churches, who plan to continue to meet may use the study as a pre-service learning opportunity. “The great need,” Small noted, “is the cultivation of a regular daily time with God that moves us beyond Sunday-to-Sunday faith existence. And few things help that more than creating a sacred space for prayer.”

The book, The Prayer Closet is available at alivepublications.org. It is also available as a teaching-kit (contains the book, a printed teaching guide, a participant reflection guide in e-format, and a robust PowerPoint teaching companion).

The Wednesday School of Prayer is free. It can be accessed on the Church of God Prayer Ministries and ProjectPray Facebook pages or Youtube.com/projectpray.
