Induction into the Hall of Prophets is reserved for Pentecostal ministers whose service to Jesus Christ and the Church of God has been meritorious. A very important feature of the Hall of Prophets is the establishment of a scholarship in honor of the nominee which will be a perpetual source of funding for students preparing for ministry at PTS.

Attending the meeting was a variety of ministry colleagues, including fellow evangelists, church leaders, and family. The International Executive Council, meeting in session this week, called a “Special Order of the Day” to allow members of the Executive Committee and Council to attend the ceremony in honor of Lawhon.

Among the speakers presenting tributes to the ministry of Floyd Lawhon were Church of God General Overseer Timothy M. Hill; Jentezen Franklin, senior pastor of Free Chapel, Gainesville, Ga., Evangelist Perry Stone of Perry Stone Ministries; Marcus Lamb, founder and CEO of Daystar television network; Pastor Tony Scott of The Church in Maumee, Ohio; and Tony Stewart, senior pastor of CityLife church in Tampa, Fla. Former general overseer for the Church of God and current senior pastor of North Cleveland, Mark Williams, offered remarks and benediction.

Conducting meetings in churches in the U.S. and abroad, Lawhon spent more than five years in administrative offices in Virginia and Illinois and 22 years as a pastor. His pastorates include Deer Park Church of God, Houston, Texas; Coastal Cathedral, Savannah, Georgia; and Upper Room, Los Angeles, California. Each was marked with outstanding growth under his leadership. His last pastorate was at Jamboree Worship Center, a rapidly growing church in the heart of Orange County, California. The church increased over 150% in the five years he pastored. The church is now known as “Free Chapel Orange County” and is pastored by Lawhon’s successor, Jentezen Franklin.

In constant demand as a guest speaker, Lawhon has ministered at more than 100 Church of God camp meetings, prayer conferences, and many other state meetings. His evangelistic ministry has taken him to over fifty countries of the world in twenty-eight overseas trips, preaching to thousands on the mission field and in the United States.

Lawhon served for fourteen years as an elected member of the International Executive Council (Council of Eighteen). He further distinguished himself by serving on the last Council of Twelve and the first Council of Eighteen. He also served eight years as a member of the World Missions Board of Directors.

Leading the official installment into the Hall of Prophets was president of the Pentecostal Theological Seminary, Michael L. Baker. Other participants in the ceremony included Bryan Lawhon, Jeff Hammond, Theresa Hammond, and Mark Schrade.

Together with his wife, Gay, the Lawhons have endeavored to serve God with all their hearts in each assignment. Floyd and Gay have been blessed with two children—Bryan Lawhon and Theresa Lawhon Hammond— six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. After retiring from full time pastoral ministries, Lawhon continues doing his heart’s greatest desire—simply preaching and having people touched, saved and healed by the power of God.
