McGirt Appointed Administrative Bishop of Alaska

Cleveland, TN–Dr. Jeffrey McGirt has been appointed to serve as the Administrative Bishop/State Overseer of Alaska. The announcement was made by Dr. Timothy M. Hill, General Overseer of the Church of God, on behalf of the International Executive Committee. The appointment is effective next week, Sept. 1.

“I am pleased to announce Dr. McGirt’s appointment,” Hill stated. “The great people of Alaska are going to be blessed by his leadership and by the focus that he brings to this position. As a former pastor and educator, Jeff and Barbara are well-prepared to take on the incredible opportunities in the great state of Alaska.”

McGirt is currently the Director of Graduate Enrollment at Lee University and previously pastored the East Laurinburg Church of God (Western North Carolina) for more than 16 years. He also holds a Doctorate of Ministry degree from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary.

“My wife Barbara and I are servant leaders who are eager to hear from the ministers and laity of Alaska,” McGirt stated. “I hope to pick up on the shared successes of the previous administration and the state/regional council.”

McGirt replaces Rev. J. Pat Wright who recently accepted the appointment to serve as Administrative Bishop in the Pacific Northwest Region. These appointments come as two that were necessary due to previous plans by long time Pacific Northwest overseer Vaughn Matthews to retire earlier this year. All other state and regional appointments are set to remain in place until the 78th International General Assembly in 2022, following its postponement earlier this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
