More than 25,000 people reportedly attended the Centennial General Assembly held at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, July 29-August 3, 1986. Emphasizing the theme “The Church Triumphant,” General Overseer E.C. Thomas opened the 61st General Assembly on Tuesday night. Other speakers were Wallace Sibley (Wednesday), Lamar Vest (Thursday), Victor Pagan (Friday), C.R. Spain (Friday), Annette Watson (Saturday), Hal B. Thompson Jr. (Saturday), and newly elected General Overseer Raymond Crowley (Sunday).

Special musical events included a youth afterglow concert on Thursday, a late-night heritage celebration on Friday, and a Sunday morning presentation of “The Anointing,” written and arranged by David Horton and Michael Frazier especially for the Centennial Assembly. A memorial service honoring deceased ministers and the installation of executive leadership were highlights of Sunday morning’s concluding service.

[2]“With no General Assembly this summer, a look back at our Centennial Assembly will bless and inspire Church of God members and friends,” said Dr. David Roebuck, director of the PRC. “Viewers may watch any service at any time or in their original order in 1986. The Dixon Pentecostal Research Center will feature a service each day beginning Monday, July 20, with the heritage music celebration.”
