Virginia Dedicates Building in Honor of W.A. Davis

The Virginia Church of God state campground in Roanoke has a new dormitory building which was officially dedicated last week in honor of past Virginia state overseer and church leader, W.A. “Dick” Davis.

Davis, who served as Virginia overseer from 1998 until his death in December 2003, was honored with the dedication during Virginia’s camp meeting. Attending the June 19 ceremony and cutting the ribbon for the new facility were Davis’ widow, Glenda, and two sons, Shaun and Todd. Virginia state leaders and representatives from the International Offices also participated in the ceremony. Offering comments was former Virginia overseer Mitchell Corder. Church of God Secretary General John Childers led the litany of dedication.

W.A. Davis Hall on the Virginia State Campground is a dormitory which will serve the needs of multiple groups visiting the campus in the future. According to the litany of dedication, the building will provide, “for the ministry of young people, for outreach, retreats, prayer and praise; for comfort to those who mourn, for strength to those who are tempted, for grace to those who are afflicted, for every help to right living, and for the salvation of all who pass though these doors; for education of the body, mind, and soul, for the defense of righteousness and unceasing war against all wickedness, in private and public life.”

Prior to his service as overseer of Virginia, Davis was the Virginia director of Youth and Christian Education from 1968-1972. From there he went on to serve in multiple leadership capacities, including assistant director and international director of Youth and Christian Education for the Church of God, state overseer of Pennsylvania, and director of the Western School of Christian Ministries.
