Desperate Situation Remains in Cyclone Region

The Southeastern Africa countries of Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe experienced catastrophic flooding after a cyclone hit the coast last month. This event is being called one of the worst natural disasters the area has experienced.

Field Director for the Church of God in Africa, Peter Thomas, states: “According to reports, the water in some rural areas stands at six meters (almost 20 feet), covering whole villages. Our people and churches have been affected by this terrible disaster. Some houses and churches collapsed due to the enormous flood and wind forces.”

The overseers of these areas will be providing more information as they are able to assess the damage.

Church of God World Missions has responded and sent initial funding, but more funds are needed as the people experiencing this disaster rebuild and depend on aid for their necessities. Contributions are encouraged by visiting cogwm.org and clicking on the project number: 765-0036-061.

The World Missions family at Church of God International Offices gathered last week to pray for the survivors of the disaster. “They need more than money right now. They need the comfort and strength of the Lord,” director Dr. David M. Griffis said.
