Donnie Smith, Care Ministries Administrator, Passes Away

Dr. Donnie Smith, executive administrator for the Church of God Division of Care, passed away on June 9, 2018. Funeral arrangements have been received for the visitation and services.

Smith has served Care Ministries since his appointment in 2006. He began his ministry in February 1969. He has ministered in forty-eight states and in more than 70 countries. He has served the Church of God as an evangelist, pastor, state youth and Christian education director in Mississippi, Oklahoma and Kansas, and as a state administrative bishop in the Rocky Mountain Region, Western North Carolina, and Florida. During his pastorate of thirteen years in Atlanta, Georgia the church grew from 100 to over 1,000 members. At that time, he also began five ethnic congregations with over 1,500 members. Dr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Lee University, a Master of Arts and Master of Divinity from the Pentecostal Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in Cross-Cultural Ministries from Columbia Theological Seminary. In November of 2009 he received commendation from the White House for his outstanding work among the Hispanic churches across America and for teaching Hispanic pastors on how to help the nation’s poor.

Dr. Smith and his wife Barbara have been married since December 1967. They have two sons (Shane and Casey) and are the proud grandparents of five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the North Cleveland Church of God main sanctuary. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. following the visitation. Officiating at the service will be Dr. Mark Williams, Dr. Tim Hill and Dr. Raymond F. Culpepper. A closing prayer will be offered by Rev. Joseph Mirkovich and a private graveside sermon will be delivered by Rev. Gerald McGinnis. Special music will be provided by the North Cleveland Crusader Choir.

Jim Rush Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to one of the seven benevolent agencies under the Division of Care: Chaplains Commission, Ministerial Care, Ministry to Israel, Operation Compassion, SpiritCare, Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, or the Vest SpiritCare Center.
