Church of God Honors the Memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

CLEVELAND, TN: In remembrance of the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the General Overseer of the Church of God, Dr. Timothy M. Hill, has issued the following statement:

“Over 54 years ago, standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Dr. King challenged our country to dream with him of a nation where freedom and equality replaced slavery and hatred. With a few simple but profound phrases, Dr. King encouraged our nation to make our future brighter than our past – but he clearly noted that if that was going to happen, it was going to take all of us coming together as one. In referencing Psalms 30:5, Dr. King pointed out that while ‘weeping may endure for a night, joy was coming in the morning.’

The words of Jesus in John 10:10 – ‘I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly’ – were meant for everyone, regardless of race, creed, color, or ethnicity. So as we take time on this day to reflect on the life of Dr. King, my prayer is that we will all join together to make sure that every man, woman, and child can hear of the love of Jesus Christ – our Lord and Savior and our soon coming King. The FINISH Commitment to the Great Commission requires no less of us.”
