Virtual Prayer Meeting to Begin New Year

Church of God Prayer Ministries Coordinator P. Douglas Small will lead a national virtual prayer meeting to take place from Sunday, January 1, 2017 through Sunday, January 22.

Nightly, at 9:00 p.m. EST time, Christians from across the nation can join a live prayer call focused on revival and awakening by calling (605) 562-3172, Access Code 1234. The call will last for 90 minutes. Special guests already scheduled on the call include Tim Hill, general overseer of the Church of God; Alton Garrison, assistant superintendent of the Assemblies of God; Ronnie Floyd, immediate past president of the Southern Baptist Convention; Tom Phillips, vice president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association; Kay Horner of the Awakening America Alliance; and Timothy Coalter, North American overseer for the Church of God of Prophecy.

“The list of participants this year reads like a ‘Who’s Who,” among respected Evangelical-Pentecostal leaders committed to prayer and spiritual awakening,” Small said. “In addition to the interdenominational flavor of the calls, twelve Church of God administrative bishops and their state prayer teams are scheduled to lead prayer segments throughout the 22 days.”

Among other special guests are Senator James Lankford, a strong evangelical leader in Washington representing the state of Oklahoma; Dave Butts chairman of America’s National Prayer Committee; Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership; Michael Obi, National Coordinator and Executive Director of African Strategic Prayer Leader’s Network; and Sarah Ballenger founder of Capitol Hill Prayer Partners.

Each day, a devotional challenge will be emailed to those requesting updates on the call. The devotional is an excerpt from Dr. Tom Phillips newest book, Jesus Now, currently being released. And each night, a national leader will co-host the call along with Doug Small. The calls include a prayer segment, a ‘Look What God is Doing!’ report, praise moments or awakening needs, all designed to move listeners to pray. Small says, “We don’t want to merely talk about prayer – we want to pray!”

Listeners can mute their phones and pray along or they can dial in a special passive listener’s number. “With our technology,” Small notes, “thousands can join these calls simultaneously. Those from outside the country can usually connect via VOIP or by using some service such as SKYPE. The listener-only number is (605)562-3173.

At 10:30 p.m. EST, there is a planned afterglow for open prayer. To receive updates and the daily emails for the call sign-up at americapray.net.

Tim Hill will host a livestream nightly call to prayer from January 10-12. The special simulcast will originate from the Leadership and Communications Center at the Church of God International Offices. In addition to the prayer events, individuals and congregations around the world can participate in a three-day revival being tagged as Agree ‘17. Each day, beginning at 10:45 a.m. EST, the livestream will be broadcast from the international offices of the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Fresh reports about revival and renewal from across the nation and around the world will be a part of these broadcasts. Doug Small, noted, “We hope members will tune in every day. And in some cases, that pastors will call a prayer revival, gather their congregations, and join in prayer with the live stream.” Special guest speaker for the three day revival will be Dr. Mark Rutland.

“In addition to the prayer and revival events, it is estimated that millions will begin the year by fasting for spiritual renewal,” Small concluded. “The Church of God, the 21 Days of Virtual Prayer, and the Agree ‘17 simulcast from the International Offices, is a way of drawing us together toward the goal of a Great Awakening in our culture.”
