Worldventure Announces Hackathon for Faith-Based Technologies

WorldVenture and Code for the Kingdom are pleased to announce the launch of the faith-based “Rocky Mountain Hackathon” in the Denver metro area. The event, taking place Nov. 6-8 at Colorado Christian University, will bring together coders, designers, marketers, entrepreneurs and technologists to tackle global challenges from a Christian perspective. Industry-leading mentors from Google, StumbleUpon, Global Media Outreach and others will be available to consult with all attendees.

“One of the issues I’ve seen time and time again is that Christian ‘techies’ can’t use their gifts beyond running the PowerPoint slides during church worship services,” said Chris Wynn, Director of Communications at WorldVenture and the local organizer of the event. “This Hackathon is an avenue to help professionals activate their skill sets and passions for incredible purposes around the world.”

Code for the Kingdom, a Leadership Network initiative, has mobilized more than 1,000 technologists in the U.S. and abroad who have created more than 100 projects to propel Christian initiatives forward. Not only does the event provide a space for passionate technologists to network, but also opportunities to create new apps and other solutions for real problems in the real world.

The event is open to everyone and will offer challenges focused on four areas of need:
1. Social Justice — creating technologies to provide disaster relief, development, medical and health assistance, and to seek justice in illegal, immoral and dangerous cases.

2. Evangelism — building technologies to form relationships with non-believers, seek decisions to follow Christ, baptize believers and translate Scripture and Christian resources.

3. Generosity — Helping individuals and families become more generous in every aspect of their lives through technology.

4. Mission Movements — Offering unique technologies to disciple new believers, prepare national Christians to become missionaries and help national churches and groups engage in cross-cultural mission.
Groups of creative technologists will work on their projects in teams throughout the weekend. The teams will then present their finished projects to a panel of judges, who will award prizes to the winners.

Cost of registration for the event is $15, which includes all meals for the weekend as well as other registration materials.
