I keep remembering the devastation the poor Moskito people are going through, and thinking about the hunger they will be facing in the coming year due to their crops being lost…it makes me sad.
I remember seeing a woman over 80 years old whose house had been partly demolished in the village of Kawnsirpi. I noticed a bandage around her right arm and asked her what it was. She said her forearm was broken during the storm. Because she didn’t have the resources to go to a doctor, she just put a bandage around it and told me, “God has given me this to bear.” Wow, I didn’t know what to say to that. Of course we helped her. I met her three days after the storm had passed, and she was working to get her house rebuilt…with the broken arm.
I remember many pastors from the Church of God who were living outside with their families, and neighboring families, beside the remains of their houses as they patiently rebuilt, with almost no resources to do so.
I remember seeing children working to give their families something to eat, when all around them was nothing but devastation and rubble.
And most of all, I remember the faces of the people who continue to be affected by this uncaring, unfeeling force of nature named Felix.
