National Prayer Committee Launches Prayer-Connect Tonight

The National Prayer Committee, an organization of the Church of God, is inaugurating a new effort to encourage interdenominational, grassroots prayer movements, city-by-city. It is collaborative effort of the Mission America Coalition and the National Prayer Committee, led by Doug Small, along with Claude King (Southern Baptists), Kay Horner (Center for Spiritual Renewal), Randy Hekman (One Cry and Life Action Ministries), and John Maempa (Assemblies of God Prayer Leader).

Two calls will take place monthly – the 2nd and 4th Thursday – with varying information presented during each call. The first call is tonight, Thursday, October 9 at 10:00 a.m. EST. The second call will take place on Thursday, October 23 at 9:00 p.m. EST.

According to Small, the first call will feature stories of what happens as city leaders – pastors (the Ezra stream), laymen (the Nehemiah stream), intercessors (the Esther stream) gather, three strands, and look beyond the local congregations to the 82 percent of their city/county not in church on a typical Sunday, and the 75 percent who are rarely in church.

“Tonight’s call will include a profile of God’s activity in Cartersville, Ga.,” Small stated. “More than 7,000 participated in their National Day of Prayer effort – an event that touched every community in their county.”

The second call will focus on guiding principles of a multi-denominational movement of prayer aimed at a Great Awakening, marked by the Great Commitment (prayer), the Great Commandment (love and care), and the Great Commission (sharing the gospel).

The calls are through a video-based system. Using the technology, FUZE Meeting, the calls will allow for video transmission, as well as audio to hear the discussion. Participants who have access to a computer will be able to chat, post questions, screen share and more.
