Operation Compassion Sends Relief Goods to Disaster Zones

Since Hurricane Dean and Tropical Storm Erin have reabsorbed into the earth’s atmosphere, many surviving victims have needed assistance to overcome the destruction. While Jamaica did not experience a direct hit from Dean, it was the worst damage since 1988. Many homes were damaged or destroyed, crops were left in ruins and hundreds of families were displaced. Operation Compassion has been busy sending relief supplies to the Caribbean island.

Thankfully, Operation Compassion had a supply of disaster relief good staged in the United States at warehouse locations making immediate response much quicker. However, Operation Compassion and our network of partners have been continuing to send relief goods to help alleviate the distress, confusion and helplessness survivors often feel. Frank Allen and Hope Charitable Services have been instrumental in sending containers from the Norfolk, VA area.

After Tropical Storm Erin dissipated, her remnants continued a track that met another system to the north. Together this storm deluged the upper tier of states with torrential rains creating some of the worst flooding recorded. Many towns and communities were simply overwhelmed by the volume of water, leaving hundreds of families without homes.

However, in response to the needs of the affected communities, Operation Compassion and God’s Pit Crew are delivering needed supplies as work crews help with the clean up.

Thankfully, for the Church of God, only minor damage was reported to our churches, parsonages and state offices across a ten state area, from Ohio to Minnesota to Texas. However, in response to the needs of the affected communities, Operation Compassion and God’s Pit Crew are delivering needed supplies as work crews help with the clean up.

A little further from the United States, Operation Compassion has sent financial assistance to help with recovery efforts following the devastating earthquake. In addition, Michael Uhr and a few of his friends from the Lawrenceville Church of God in the Atlanta, GA area have traveled to Peru to help with the relief efforts. These young men will be in Peru for the next five months serving as volunteer missionaries.
