As the highlight of the ceremony, Dr. Tim Hill, director of World Missions, and John Childers, assistant director, set fire to a note representing payment of heavy equipment bought for Men and Women of Action projects and for land for expansion of an orphanage in Guyana, South America. The money was given by attendees of the recent annual MWOA rally in Sevierville, Tennessee supplemented by gifts from the Marcelly’s Dream initiative.

MWOA, a construction volunteer organization uses bulldozers, front-end loaders, and similar equipment, along with the trailers that transport them, in disaster relief work and building projects. The men who perform the work donate their time and often their tools.

Bless the Children Home for Children, built as the Tyler Carver Memorial, in Georgetown, Guyana, has been landlocked, unable to expand until adjacent property could be purchased. A multipurpose building housing a kitchen and dining facility, gym, chapel, and other space will be placed on the new land. The memorial honors Tyler, the son of MWOA director Hugh Carver, who died in an automobile accident at the age of 16.

Hill took the opportunity to announce the growth of the Marcelly’s Dream Initiative to $1.3 million. As part of the celebration he presented a $5,000 check to People for Care and Learning for the Build A City project. Shirley Garmon accepted on behalf of her husband, Fred, who leads PCL, but was out of the country. Hill also presented a $10,000 check on behalf of the Vision Foundation toward the African Firewall Project, the Church of God YWEA emphasis for this year, and $5,000 from the Marcelly’s Dream initiative to Men and Women of Action.
