Discipleship College (Kenya) Moves Forward

KENYA—We thank God for the many doors He has opened while we traveled to churches throughout the States … Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas, North Carolina, Missouri, Tennessee, and Wisconsin attending churches sharing our ministry at Discipleship College, getting reacquainted, and making new friends who are supporting us financially and most importantly with their prayers. May God continue to bless your ministries and lives as you reach others around the world.

After six months of enjoying family and friends in the States, we are happy to be home in Eldoret. Thank you to James Kagari, Marcia Anderson, the rest of the staff and faculty, and the student body for working together as a team and taking care of Discipleship College while we were away. Things have been running at full-tilt since our return and there are many new and exciting things happening at Discipleship College.

We have completed Term II, which consists of four three-week modules. Dr. Robby Waddell, professor of New Testament and Early Christian Literature at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, visited. He serves as the Director of the Center for Faith and Higher Learning and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Biblical and Pneumatological Research. Dr. Waddell taught Apocalyptic Literature. The class was great and everyone enjoyed learning, having deep discussions, and experiencing a new way of understanding God’s Word.

Arriving next was Dr. Shirley and David Bowles. Dr. Shirley, a professional counselor with adjunct teaching experience at several universities and experience working in several countries around the world, taught the next three weeks on Introduction to Christian Counseling. This class was well- received and is a much-needed course in Kenya. In one of the sessions, the students were role-playing a situation in which they could use their newly-achieved counseling knowledge. The students enjoyed this class and Dr. Shirley. While she shared her love and ministry in the classroom, David was blessing the college by whipping the campus grounds back into shape. During the end of our trip to the States, the rainy season hit and the lawn, hedges, and gardens had become overgrown needed attention. David worked daily beautifying, training staff, and transforming the campus grounds back to life. Our campus has never looked so good. Several of the students thanked me for inviting such great teachers from the United States to encourage and share their knowledge with us. As the director, these words of encouragement let me know I am where I need to be; doing God’s work for His ministry at Discipleship College.

Tanya and I are thankful God placed us in Eldoret, because we are able to share this blessing with friends and family when they come to visit. We take our guests to our favorite places like Kerio View, a nice restaurant with a great view of Kerio Valley, as well as the Impala Sanctuary in Kisumu, where you can enjoy lunch on Lake Victoria, see animals such as rhinos, ostriches, monkeys, giraffes, hyenas, lions, and leopards, in addition to the impalas roaming free. If you dare, you can even pet a cheetah.

The first faculty house is in its final stage and will be ready for Marcia to move into soon. We are excited and moving forward with Phase 1 of our new administration complex this month—thanks to the Churches of God in Illinois. The government has just approved the building’s technical drawings and the new campus master plan. Steps to accreditation are being completed with the college’s constitution, strategic plan, and master plan of the campus. Once these have been reviewed/approved by the Board, we can submit our application for accreditation. God is so good and He is in control of His ministry at Discipleship College.

Blessings to you and thank you for all you contribute spiritually, emotionally, and financially to our ministry.
