What’s Right With the Church – Part 3

Church of God World Missions Director Tim Hill continues a series.

I’ve recently been posing this question, “What’s right with the church?”

I’ve already mentioned the faith of the church. Now allow me to briefly address some other important items.

The Fellowship of the Church.

To be a part of those “called out of darkness” is a marvelous thing. This is not an exclusive club, but it is open to “whosoever will.” To think that I have brothers and sisters around this world, most of whom I’ve never met, is an astounding thought that is hard to comprehend. The Greek word, “koinonia” is used throughout the New Testament to describe the participation of saints in divine community that believers should experience.

The Fire of the Church.

This speaks of the spiritual vitality that every church should experience. A fire has always had a drawing effect. Churches that are hot with evangelism and soul winning will still draw a crowd today. Many are “lukewarm,” as described in the book of Revelation. They are too cold to be hot, and too hot to be cold. Like lukewarm coffee, it is nothing at all to be desired. Jesus is coming back for a “church on fire” with love for Him that is unrivaled.

The Future of the Church

. In this day of economic, social, and political struggle, when major corporations, businesses and long-established institutions have failed on almost a daily basis, I’m glad to report that the Church of the Lord Jesus is still secure. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said three important things that affirm the strength of the church:

1. “I (Jesus) will build it.”

2. “I will build it upon a rock.”

3. “The gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

I would say the future of the church is as bright as the promises of God, so I think I’ll stick with it.

See you in church.
