January 6, 2013 will mark the first Great Day of Prayer for the year 2013. In connection with Church of God General Overseer Mark William’s READ initiative, the prayer emphasis on this first Sunday of the New Year is a ‘Praying the Scripture’ exercise.
Great prayer leaders remind us that the Bible is not meant to be read, as much as it is to be prayed. It is our ‘prayer book.’ Much of the psalms are comprised of worship and prayer materials, prayer models – we are read it, and pray it; and thereby learn to pray by its pattern.
To support the Great Day of Prayer, and the READ the Word initiative, a bulletin insert has been designed, along with a prayer service guide and a power point. In addition, the website contains archives of previous Great Days of Prayer materials.
Additional Prayer Emphasis items include: January 10-31, Fasting for His Favor. A complete prayer guide is being produced, including daily devotionals.
Seek God for the City prayer guides need to be ordered directly from Waymakers this year. That prayer evangelism emphasis begins February 13, 2013.
Those who live near a college or university campus are urged to adopt it for prayer. You can go to www.collegiatedayofprayer.com [1]/org or link to that site from the Church of God prayer website.
