Souper Bowl of Caring Is This Weekend

Homeless, abused and neglected children need your help on Super Bowl Sunday, February 3. The annual Souper Bowl of Caring event is part of a nationwide project to raise funds for Church of God residence programs.

Coordinated by both the Youth and Christian Education and Residential care Departments, all funds collected will go directly toward benefitting one of five facilities under the umbrella of Residential Care: Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in Sevierville, Tenn., New River Ranch in Fayetteville, W.V., Heart of Florida Youth Ranch in Ocala, Fla., South Carolina Home for Children in Mauldin, S.C., and North Carolina Home for Children in Concord, N.C. These five child care ministries specifically minister to the needs of hurting children on a daily basis. Contributions received on Super Bowl Sunday will help provide food, shelter, clothing, activities, and educational opportunities for the children at these homes.

Any congregation may participate with minimal effort. It works by encouraging people to give at least $1 as they leave service on Sunday, February 3. As a unique way of emphasizing the occasion, the event is primarily coordinated by the youth of a local congregation who may use large soup pots to collect the donations following the morning worship service or other designated service. Funds collected are then sent to the state or regional Youth and Christian Education Department designated as “Souper Bowl Offering.”

Since 1920, Church f God benevolent ministries has been caring for children of all ages who fall into the above categories. As caring, Christian agencies licensed by the Department of Children’s Services in their state, four Church of God-sponsored child care ministries provide a safe haven for youth without regard to race, creed, national origin or religious background. Operating under the auspices of the Church of God International Offices as residential child caring and placement agencies, these ministries have cared for thousands of needy children since their inception.

The mission of Church of God child care ministries is to provide Christian group and foster home care to dependant, neglected and abused children and to provide adoption service when possible. It is the firm belief of Residential care that family life offers the best opportunity for meeting emotional, social and spiritual needs for children; therefore the goal of these ministries is to provide the vehicle by which each child will return to family life in the community aware of his personal worth and dignity and his proper relationship with his fellow man and with God through Jesus Christ.

Together, congregations across the nation can make a tremendous difference by each attendee giving at least $1 this Sunday. Won’t you do your part in affecting the life of a child for the Kingdom?
