Church of God construction missionaries Jim and Gina Hudson testify about the continuing relief efforts being put forth by Church of God congregations.
We had two medical teams visit us in Haiti recently; one was Dr. Stoney Abercrombie (VIMM) with a 15-member team. They saw 1,800 people in five different locations throughout Haiti.
There was an instance where they brought a two-day-old baby that was running a high fever. Dr. Stoney thought they might loose her. We laid hands on the baby, while Dr. Stoney tried to get some fluids in her and place cooling cloths on her. The baby began to sneeze, and we felt the presence of the Lord in the place. We were in a remote location, but we got a Tap Tap (taxi) who came and took the mother and the baby to the hospital.
We were in another location outside the city, and while there, a young boy came with a highly infected hand. He had fallen on a long thorn and was running a fever. Dr. Stoney and Dr. Gore did an operation on the boy’s hand. He was in so much pain the team had to hold him down during the operation. They were able to get the thorn out in pieces and treat the infection. We all felt the young boy’s hurt so keenly that the grown men cried for him.
David Teaster and a six-member team from Knoxville, TN, came in August. The team went right to work. Over the period of their stay, they treated 750 people. One man in the Roche Blanche Church lived behind the church. He came in so sick he could hardly walk. The team nurse took him ahead of the others, and gave him an IV to rehydrate him.
Orphanage: We continue to build the security wall around the compound and the metal gates have been ordered. They are in the plastering stage of the wall and detailing. We measured for windows and doors that will be purchased in the coming weeks. We are to meet with work teams in the States in preparation to install new window/doors, and the electrical wiring. We have received money to purchase a generator that will supply power for lights, fans, etc. We still need to purchase an inverter with batteries to run the lights at night when the generator is not needed.
Compound Security Wall Phase IV: We have started the blocking of the wall going behind the shops, going down the hill running along the valley of Bourdoun. This wall will turn and follow the existing security fencing line and when finished will completely close in the compound.
Mathieu COG: The foundation has been dug, and re-bar columns have been installed. We are waiting on the architect to provide a plan, and the wall and flooring will begin. We are hoping for the completion of the walls before the end of the year.
Turbe COG: The walls are almost erected, and ready for the trusses. We will get with the fabricator and he will build metal trusses. We need teams to come and help with the installation and roofing.
