Pentecostal Theological Seminary Hosts Lectures On The Spirit
The fifteenth annual Clarence J. Abbott Lectures in Biblical Studies will be given February 21 and 23 in Cross Memorial Chapel at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary.
The lectures on the theme ‘The Spirit and Hermeneutics’ will be offered by Craig S. Keener and John Christopher Thomas, and they are open to the public. The first lecture, entitled ‘Toward a Pentecostal Theology of Anointed Cloths’ will be given by Prof. Thomas on Tuesday, February 21 at 11.00 am EST. The second lecture, entitled ‘Spirit Hermeneutics’ will be offered by Prof. Keener on 23 February at 11.00 am.
Craig Keener is F.M. and Ida Thompson Professor of Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky. Before coming to Asbury in 2011, Dr. Keener taught at Palmer Theological Seminary of Eastern University for 15 years and before that he taught at Hood Theological Seminary.
Craig has authored 21 books, five of which have won book awards in Christianity Today. His IVP Bible Background Commentary: New Testament, now in its 2nd revised edition, has sold more than half a million copies (including editions in several languages).
Craig is married to Médine Moussounga Keener, who holds a PhD from University of Paris 7. She was a refugee for 18 months in her nation of Congo (their story together appears in the book Impossible Love), and together Craig and Médine work for ethnic reconciliation in the U.S. and Africa. Craig was ordained in an African-American denomination in 1991 and was one of the associate ministers in an African-American megachurch in Philadelphia. He has taught in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, and in connection with various denominations.
John Christopher Thomas is Clarence J. Abbott Professor of Biblical Studies at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary in Cleveland, TN. A member of the full-time faculty of the Pentecostal Theological Seminary since 1982, Professor Thomas has been honored for his work in New Testament scholarship by his election into membership of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas and his appointment as the Clarence J. Abbott Professor of Biblical Studies at the Seminary.
He has published articles in several leading international journals devoted to study of the New Testament including. Professor Thomas serves as Editor of the Journal of Pentecostal Theology and Supplement Series, and serves as General Editor of the Pentecostal Commentary Series.
