Feed the Children Offers Free Books for Churches

Through a new partnership with Disney Publishing, Feed the Children has more than 1,000,000 books available to help churches provide brand new books for children and schools in their communities this Christmas.

“How much is a book worth?,” Kevin Richardson, director of church and volunteer engagement for Feed the Children. “We all know reading is important. We all know that reading at grade level is necessary for academic advancement. But, few of us realize just how important reading is to a child’s long-term future.”

Richardson went on to explain studies have shown that a student not reading at his or her grade level by the end of the third grade is four times less likely to graduate high school on time. The numbers are even worse for children from low-income families. Take that and add to it a 2009 study by researchers at Northeastern University that found that high school dropouts were 63 times more likely to be incarcerated than college grads and you can start to see just how important reading is to a child.

“In Matthew 7:9, Jesus asked, ‘Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?’ Richardson said. “The schools in your community are begging for support. Providing books for schools in your community is the kind of ministry that meets a felt need. It establishes the church as a vital resource for the community and, more importantly, opens the door for deeper impact.

The books are free. All churches have to do is cover the cost of shipping.
