Seminary Launches Fall Semester

Cleveland, Tenn.—The Pentecostal Theological Seminary (PTS) held its first day of classes for the fall 2016 semester on Thursday, August 25.

PTS was founded as a graduate level institution for the Church of God’s in 1974. Since then it has become a respected member of the seminary landscape across the country.

As part of the first day’s ceremonies, new president of PTS, Dr. Michael L. Baker, addressed the student body in the seminary’s Cross Chapel. He challenged the audience of faculty, staff, and students to, “Hold carefully to their Pentecostal passion and zeal,” and to, “never drop this great treasure.”

Baker was appointed Chancellor of Education for the Church of God at last month’s Church of God International General Assembly in Nashville, Tennessee. The following week it was announced he would also become president of PTS, holding dual roles for the Church of God. Baker replaces former president Lamar Vest who resigned after two years at the helm.

Seminary officials reported on opening day there was a 6% increase in enrollment over the same period last year. Enrollment for the fall semester will continue for the next several days.
