Multi-Cultural Ministries Celebrates Church of God Black Ministries Awareness

Cleveland, TN–On February 11, 2016, Church of God Multi-Cultural Ministries in partnership with the Pentecostal Theological Seminary will celebrate the many contributions African descent members have made to the Church of God.

Kenneth L. Hill, director of Church of God Multi-Cultural Ministries, is leading the Black Ministries Awareness Celebration in conjunction with Black History Month.

Since 1909, African descent members have made many contributions to the Church of God, starting with Reverends Edmond and Rebecca Barr, Church of God ministers of African descent who were the first individuals to take the gospel outside the United States to Nassau, Bahamas. In their honor, a recognition plaque was placed in the Church of God International Prayer Plaza at the celebration in 2014.

Beginning in 2011, the Church of God established Black Ministries Awareness to be celebrated around the world on the second Sunday of February. Throughout the United States, churches will celebrate the many contributions African descent people have made to the United States through many religious, civic, medical, industrial, inventions, government and the United States presidency.

This year’s celebration theme is “Together We Go,” taken from Matthew 28:19-20. The celebration will begin with chapel on February 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pentecostal Theological Seminary, 900 Walker St., NE, Cleveland, TN. The speaker will be the Reverend Arlene Hall. She is a native of Jamaica, a Church of God ordained minister, is a Doctoral in Ministry student at Pentecostal Theological Seminary, and founding pastor of the Deliverance Temple Worship Center (DTWC) in the inner city of Boston, Massachusetts. Special music will be provided by Lee University Evangelistic Singers, under the direction of Mrs. Gloria Richmond. Upon completion of the chapel service, lunch will be served in the Knights Hall with a lecture conducted by Dr. Michael Reynolds, senior pastor of New Life Celebration “The Equipping Church” and executive director and associate dean at Trinity University in Dolton, Illinois. His lecture will be centered on the theme “Cultural Diversity.”

On Sunday, February 14, 2016, Valentine’s Day, Black Ministries Awareness will be celebrated internationally throughout the Church of God. Each church is asked to allow time to recognize the contributions Black Ministries have made to the Church of God. Also, donations can be made to Church of God World Missions, #102-9347, P. O. Box 2430, Cleveland, TN 37320

The Pentecostal Theological Seminary will provide lunch after chapel service. However, for planning purposes, please call 423-478-1131 no later than 5 p.m., February 10, 2016 to make your lunch reservation. For more information and hotel accommodations, please visit the website, www.cogmcm.org.
