Lane Reports from Mexican Orphanage

Tony Lane, Youth and Discipleship Children’s Ministries Coordinator and ambassador for the Casa Hogar Alfa y Omega Orphanage in Poza Rica, Mexico reports on the recent 15th annual winter trip:

“I am amazed at what has been accomplished over the years. While there with a team of 53 people, we had a ribbon cutting for the new dining hall/kitchen. We purchased tables, chairs, and six months’ worth of supplies. In addition, we painted the dining hall and the boys’ dormitory. Parties were provided for the children, teens, and adult workers who were each presented with a large gift bag. Special gifts provided, that were greatly needed by the workers, were kitchen cabinets, a sink for one of the workers apartment, a bedroom suite for a worker’s family who oversees the farm, and cash for the assistant director for him and his family to take a vacation. Amazingly, one of the team members felt led to purchase a wedding dress, along with the additional items a bride would need. Little did she know that one of the workers was engaged and plans for the wedding to be held during the team’s July missions trip!”

Additional Accomplishments

The first phase of the upgrades is complete on the multi-purpose building; the second phase encompasses a roof over the concrete terrace outside the dining hall. Next, concrete must be poured for a large auditorium which will seat about 700 people.

Sponsorship

A sponsorship program has been set up for the children, and individuals and churches are sending monthly support for this orphanage. Tony is especially thankful for the generosity of God’s people in the Church of God and beyond. Last week, team members purchased supplies and other items in the amount of over $15,000 for Casa Hogar!

A Legacy

Lucia Hernandez, a worker for many years, has been called to missions. Her success at planting churches in the Poza Rica area has brought her to the attention of the national office in Mexico City who has asked her to work there teaching others how to use her method of church planting. Another brother in town who was saved has planted a church among the outcasts, holding weekly services and feeding them on Tuesday nights.

Elias and Teresa Herrera, founders of Casa Hogar, obeyed the call to the children who had been abandoned, neglected, abused, and found living under a bridge. Their vision continues.
