Smoky Mountain Children’s Home Announces Donation

Dr. Walt Mauldin, executive director of the Church of God Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, made a recent announcement that the late William G. Squires has left a part of his estate to the Sevierville based children’s home.

Approximately five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) will be distributed to SMCH at $50,000 per year, until the principal is depleted. The children’s home received its initial gift this year.

“Mr. Squires always had a heart for children, and as a part of his philanthropy, he made sure children would continue to be blessed year after year,” Mauldin said.

The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home is one of two charities designated by Squires (through the Foundation of the Carolinas) to receive this annual endowment as part of a trust fund. Both the Children’s Home and SpiritCare Center (located on the same campus) received notification they were to receive funds from the estate.

“Including Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in a personal will is an excellent means of ensuring the needs of less fortunate children will continue to be met for years to come,” Mauldin continued. “It is a ‘gift that keeps on giving!’ It is also a way of keeping one’s heritage alive that can benefit needy individuals and provide them a chance for a better life and a brighter future. Whether it is a financial donation for today, gift-in-kind, or legacy giving through a will, each donation has the potential of blessing hundreds of others.”

“Mr. Squires will long be remembered for his timeless generosity and concern for the safety and well-being of hurting children,” Mauldin concluded. “His memory will live on through the many lives he has already touched and through those that will be touched in the in the future through his faithful giving. “
