Volunteers in Medical Missions Continues Partnership with Church of God

Volunteers in Medical Missions (VIMM) has had a long association with Church of God World Missions. Established in 1986 by medical doctor Stoney Abercrombie of South Carolina, its goals are to encourage participation among Christian volunteers by providing medicines, supplies, and equipment to clinics in third-world countries, and to involve non-medical people in missions projects such as construction, Bible schools, evangelism, and the use of other skills. Christian medical professionals and other volunteers are able to experience missions first-hand.

For those involved in a physical sense and for those involved by the support of funding and prayers, each share in the miracles that can happen, such as the one on a recent trip to Ecuador. While patients were receiving medications, an evangelist on the team answered their questions about his faith, and they were given Bibles upon request.

Unfortunately, some of the anti-parasite medications the medical team had left from the last trip with an American missionary couple were gone! The team went to a local pharmacy, but could only purchase seven tablets of the desperately needed medication. After prayer and reading about the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000, they left the matter up to God.

Their host for this trip, Guillerno, remembered he had a bottle of the tablets at his church from a time past. He located the bottle and brought it to the team. Amazingly, it was a bottle of 1,000 tablets (500 mg.), which could be broken into halves, fourths, and even smaller doses. All of a sudden, the medical personnel had gone from seven tablets to over 2,500 tablets! The bottle never emptied and there was still a good quantity left at the end of the week. Praise God for His provision in the midst of scarcity.

World Missions Director Dr. Tim Hill greatly appreciates the work being done by VIMM, and World Missions is faithful to its commitment in assisting with their endeavors through the Marcelly’s Dream project, which has remarkably contributed to a vast number of lives during the past year through providing the Word of God, wells of clean drinking water, constructing walls of safety and covering, and providing means for wellness and good health.

Dr. Hill acknowledges VIMM and its volunteer teams for the incredible medical assistance they have offered in the lives of the less fortunate, and for sharing Jesus Christ in a tangible way.
