Church of God Chaplain Receives Regional Award

Clinical Chaplain Jose Cedillo, while serving as the Chair of the Hispanic Task Force of the Southwest Region Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (SWRACPE), provided the leadership for a new initiative which led to the task force receiving the ACPE’s Helen Flanders Dunbar Award. The ACPE Board of Representatives voted to bestow the Helen Flanders Dunbar Award to the Southwest Region’s Hispanic Latino(a) CPE Task Force for its pioneering work in helping to establish a program of clinical pastoral education at CHRISTUS Muguerza in Monterrey, Mexico, and for its work in helping to develop Hispanic Latino(a) CPE in the Southwest Region.

The Helen Flanders Dunbar Award was established in 2002 to recognize individuals or groups who have made pioneering contributions to the clinical pastoral education movement. Recipients of the award must meet one of four criteria: exercise a leadership role at a critical juncture in ACPE history, contribute academic work of great import to the CPE movement, have a foundational role in a new expression or direction of ACPE, or acquire significant financial resources for ACPE. In giving this award, the ACPE Board of Representatives has recognized the leadership role the task force has had in developing a new expression of clinical pastoral education in the CHRISTUS Muguerza program. The award will be given at the national ACPE Conference in Atlanta in May of this year.

“Chaplain Cedillo is a great representative of Church of God Chaplaincy whose ministry is not only appreciated by our church, but also recognized by the profession organization of ACPE,” stated Richard L. Pace, endorser and coordinator of Church of God Vocational Chaplaincy Ministries. “When he receives the Dunbar Award at the upcoming conference, we will all have a smile of pride on our faces.” In addition to this recognition, Cedillo has been elected for a second time to the leadership council of the SWRACPE region, where he will continue to have the opportunity to impact decisions and initiatives for the entire SWACPE region.

“It is a joy to serve Church of God chaplains who are making a significant difference in our world,” Pace concluded. “I wish it was possible to measure the collective effect our chaplains have during any week of the year.”
