Declaration of Faith Sunday Slated for January 4, 2015

Church of God General Overseer Mark Williams has declared January 4, 2015 as “Declaration of Faith Sunday.”

“It is a special day when we give particular attention to the truths our church believes,” Williams stated in a letter to local pastors. “For some years the Church of God has dedicated the first Sunday in January as ‘Declaration of Faith Sunday.’ It would be a great day for preaching a sermon on the importance of sound doctrine. In 2014, when the church is beleaguered by all kinds of aberrations, twisted notions, and men’s doctrinal deviations, how much more important it is to—in the words of Paul in 1 Timothy 6:20—‘Guard what has been entrusted to you.’”

To help promote the observance, several resources have been made available for local churches, pastors and lay leaders. The denomination’s website (www.churchofgod.org) has a link to the resources, which include a free download of a poster and bulletin inserts. Also available on the link is a downloadable flyer from Pathway Bookstore, which features the Declaration of Faith in a framed poster which may use for promoting Declaration of Faith, as well as other options for permanently displaying the printed Declaration of Faith in the local church.

“We have no interest in enshrining men’s doctrines,” Williams continued, “but we are biblically charged to guard our doctrinal heritage. Let’s keep it before our people!”
