PTS Hosting Conference to Encourage, Equip Church Planters

Estrada

Cleveland, TN—The Pentecostal Theological Seminary will host its inaugural annual Norris Church Planting Conference on its Cleveland, Tennessee campus, October 6 – 8, 2014. “Church Planting: Methods and Strategies” will offer five learning tracks featuring presentations by proven, seasoned church planters.

“It is our goal to align the efforts of pastors, educators, and church administrators as we all seek ways to practically train and develop committed church planters,” said Dr. Wilfredo Estrada, coordinator of the conference and Director of the Seminary’s Center for Latino Studies. “This conference will present practical strategies for planting churches, as well as introduce participants to some of the leading church planting churches in North America that are successfully using multiple methods for growth.”

Conference tracks are specific to cultures (English-speaking, Latino, and African American), as well as for those in particular leadership positions (English-speaking and Spanish-speaking Administrative Bishops). Presentations will be made by pastors of “growing, church planting churches,” said Estrada, whose methods for church planting include small group ministry, social media, foreign missions, multiple sites, and social services, to name a few.

Tennent

The keynote speaker for the event will be Dr. Timothy Tennent, President of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. Tennent is chair of the Theology Working Group of the Lausanne Movement, an organization seeking to mobilize evangelical leaders to collaborate for world evangelization. Tennant will address the conference Tuesday morning, at 9 am, on the topic of “Wesleyan Theology in the Context of World Christianity.” Among the over forty speakers included in the event are, Dr. R. Lamar Vest, Dr. David Munguia, Rev. Michael Knight, Dr. Luis Rodriguez, and Rev. Eliezar Bonilla.

The conference will begin at 6:30 PM on October 6 and conclude with lunch on October 8. A $60 registration fee is required to participate in all events.

The conference is being partially funded by a Church Planting Seminar Endowment bequeathed to the Seminary by Reverend Thomas and Cynthia Norris of Lake City, Florida. This endowment will support this and future church planting seminars hosted by the Seminary.
